Developer Scott Seymour got the go-ahead on minor changes to the Fischer Crossings commercial development on the northeast side of Fischer Road and Ga. Highway 34/54. Coweta County commissioners Tuesday voted 4-1 in favor of the proposal. That vote is expected to result in the opening later this year of a multi-screen theater.

The discussion Tuesday was a carry-over from the Feb. 2 meeting involving changes to the conceptual site plan pertaining to the addition of a 10,500 square-foot aquatic center on the north side of the property and questions about the access road situated behind the aquatic center and the NCG theaters located on the east side of the property. The Feb. 2 meeting ended in a 2-2 split vote.

Commissioners Randolph Collins and Tim Lassetter had asked Feb. 2 for a confirmation that the roadway behind the aquatic center and theaters would be designated as an emergency access road and would not be used as a thoroughfare. That change was made, with Seymour noting that county planning staff acknowledged the roadway’s designation as an emergency access road to be outfitted with signage and speed-bumps. Seymour had also agreed to those conditions at the Feb. 2 meeting.

Reiterating his earlier statements, Seymour told commissioners that NCG Cinemas, the development anchor for the 10-acre site, stipulated that they wanted to have another business operating when they opened in November and that he is in negotiations with a company that wants to operate the aquatics center.

As part of the motion, Seymour agreed to proceed with planting the buffer and beginning the grading needed at the site.

NCG Cinemas stated earlier that it wanted to be open for business in November. Responding to questions from the commission, Seymour said Tuesday’s approval should not impede the completion of the theaters and aquatic center in the timeframe required.

The vote by commissioners ended at 4-1, with Collins voting in opposition.
