The musical “Cabaret” by Joe Masteroff takes places in Germany in the 1930s. The audience is invited, by the emcee, to escape to the Kit Kat Klub and leave all their troubles behind. Newnan Community Theatre Company (NCTC) will present the show in May.

Auditions for the musical will be held on March 8 and 9 at the theatre, beginning at 7 pm. There are roles for children (ages 8 and up), teens, and adults. Those auditioning may attend either evening. Anyone who is auditioning for a singing role should prepare 32 measures of two contrasting songs that are not from “Cabaret.” Bring sheet music in your key, an accompianst will be provided. Please wear comfortable shows to move in as many characters dance. There will also be cold readings from the script. No experience is necessary to audition.

Main roles are as follows:

Emcee: Male, 20s to 40s. Strong singer and dancer.

Cliff Bradshaw: Male in his 20s. Sings one song.

Herr Schultz: Male in his 50s. Sings but doesn’t dance.

Ernst Ludwig: Male, 20s to early 30s. Sings in a reprise, but doesn’t dance.

Sally Bowles: Female in her late teens to early 20s. Sings, with some dancing.

Fraulein Schneider: Female in her 40s. Sings but doesn’t dance.

Fraulein Kost: Female in her 20s. Sings in a reprise but doesn’t dance.

The roles of Nazi Youth are male from ages 8 to 12. There is no dancing involved for the youth, but they do sing one song (which will be taught to them at auditions, they don’t need to prepare any songs). Those trying out for Nazi Youth should come on Monday, March 8 only.

Kit Kat Kids are both male and female. They are older children (8 and up), teens, and also adults. Those auditioning should be strong singers and dancers. All heights, races, ages, sizes, and shapes are encouraged to audition. Kit Kat Kids will dance and sing in a variety of parts as they double as sailors, custom officers, party guests, and more.
