Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday this year, what many consider a school night, but that doesn’t let you off the hook as your Valentine will probably expect to go somewhere this weekend to celebrate. If you need some ideas, this article should give you plenty.

Theater

Would you like a funny Valentine? Newnan Community Theatre Company presents their final weekend of “What The Butler Saw” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. If you’d actually like to hear “My Funny Valentine,” Legacy Theatre in Tyrone presents “My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra,” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Twilight Theatre will present Broadway by Candlelight at the Fayette Family YMCA at 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Tickets are $12 and include dessert and a beverage. Performers will sing selections from numerous Broadway shows such as “Guys and Dolls,” “Les Miserables,” and “Song and Dance” among others. Black tie is optional.
The Fox Theatre will present “Mamma Mia!” through Sunday. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com).

Movies

A date night that includes a movie is always a good option and there is plenty at the local cinemas to enjoy. There are Oscar contenders like “The Blind Side” with Sandra Bullock as a feisty adoptive football Mom, “Crazy Heart” with Jeff Bridges as a boozy country singer and “Avatar,” with blue people fighting off greedy corporate soldiers in 3D. Among the several “chick flicks” out now are “Dear John,” about a young couple separated by duty to family and military and “Valentine’s Day,” a romantic comedy featuring arguably one of the better ensemble casts ever assembled (Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Garner, Jamie Foxx, etc.). “When in Rome” also qualifies as a romantic comedy but it has been universally panned. Lastly, there is “The Wolfman,” a thriller starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins.

Dinner

A romantic dinner is another solid option and there are plenty of places to go for a nice, quiet meal. Reservations and availablity vary at these establishments, so call ahead.

Quiet night at home

This may be one of the best options. Buy some flowers and a card, light a candle, make a playlist for your iPod or a mix CD, bake a cake or cook a dinner and spend some time with your favorite person.
Whichever way you choose to celebrate your Valentine’s Day, have a good time, stay warm and be safe.
