Cynthia S. Whiteman, 55, Newnan, died Jan. 27, 2010. She had taught school in Clayton County for 30 years. During her teaching career she was frequently voted the Most Outstanding Teacher of the Year for her school. She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Edwards Sylvester in 1985. Services were at the Peachtree City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Herzen Andone officiating.

Interment was at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. Survivors include her husband, Marty Whiteman, Newnan; a son, Michael Whiteman, Orlando, Fla.; stepson, Chuck and Amanda Whiteman, Roswell; a stepdaughter, Debbie Whiteman, McDonough; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; father, Robert "Bud" Sylvester, Covington; and sisters, Carolyn and Bob Goddard, Winder, and Cherie and Greg Hecht, Atlanta. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.
