Legacy Theatre presents Tribute to Frank Sinatra

Frank Sinatra entertained audiences for decades with dozens and dozens of hit songs. His presence can still be felt on modern culture as some of the songs he made famous continue to pop up on television, in movies and on the radio around the world. When Bethany Hayes Smith, the executive producer at the Legacy Theatre, was a part of “My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra” in Kentucky in 2004, it was a crowd pleaser, so it made sense for her and her husband, Mark, the theatre’s artistic director, to bring it to Tyrone.

The stage of the theater feels like an elegant night club that Sinatra would perform or just hang out at and the four performers are beautifully costumed for the show. There are 50 songs performed in the two hour show, including songs like “Strangers in the Night,” That’s Life,” “New Yrk, New York,” “My Funny Valentine” and much more.

“The show features every big Sinatra song you can think of and even some of his lesser known hits,” said Hayes Smith. “The show really dives into the world of Frank Sinatra and it is a musical tribute to his life.”

“My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra” features four incredibly talented singers as well as live musicians, all committed to taking the audience on a journey through Frank’s world. The four singers and dancers represent the fantastic talent that Legacy has come to offer the south side of Atlanta for the past four years.  Charlie Bradshaw is an award winning singer from Alpharetta whose soaring vocals capture not only the tenderness of “Young At Heart” but also the excitement and uncontainable energy of “That’s Life.”  Larry Cox, Jr., originally from Pennsylvania, is a new, fresh face for Atlanta’s theatre goers. Larry makes his Atlanta premier at The Legacy, and what an exciting premier it is. “Larry is a true ladies man and charmer, and there is no doubt the females in the audience will swoon as he croons through such classics as “One for My Baby” and “Witchcraft,” said Smith.

Those who frequent the Legacy Theatre will instantly recognize Melissa Vazquez Cartwright, who starred in the premiere production at the Legacy, “A Christmas Survival Guide,” and who also starred as Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz.”  Her sultry and expressive voice is featured in the moody ballad, “My Funny Valentine”, but her winning smile and charm is truly evident on songs like “I Get A Kick Out of You” and “That Old Black Magic.”  Another newcomer to the Legacy stage is the multi-talented Christina Haak.  Having just moved to the Atlanta area from upstate New York, haak is evidently adept at the jazz style that is the signature of Sinatra’s vocal styling.  Her vivacious energy and incredible vocals shine in “All the Way” and “The Best is Yet to Come.”

The show’s musicians are Becky Clark on piano and Bill Turpin on drums.

“My Way: A Musical Tribute to Frank Sinatra” will run Fridays-Sundays, Jan. 22- Feb. 14 and Hayes Smith stated that it is a perfect show for Valentine’s Day or any date night. There are plenty of romantic songs featured in the show as well as up-tempo numbers that will leave audiences tapping their toes and crooning to themselves for days to come. Performance times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Dinner and show packages are available.  Call the box office at 404-895-1473 to reserve your tickets or find out more on the web at www.thelegacytheatre.org.
