The Legacy Theatre has rented itself out for performances, meetings, parties and more, but the space is big and it can be expensive. Bethany Hayes Smith, the executive producer of The Legacy Theatre, and her husband, Mark Smith, the artistic director, decided to take some of their space and build a smaller venue for events that don’t need such a large space. The result is the swanky, club-like atmosphere of The Little Theater at Legacy.

“It’s a multi-functional room that could be used for birthday parties, karaoke, musicians, cabaret nights, comedy and more,” Hayes-Smith said, adding that when her sister saw the space she thought it may eventually be used for weddings.

Hayes-Smith started in the entertainment business by hosting birthday parties and karaoke nights under the name Purple Umbrella Entertainment and she can see The Little Theater becoming a popular destination for unique parties that can put partygoers under the lights and on stage. The space will also host classes like musical theater, improv comedy, acting and more under Legacy Studios and will also be the site for the end of class showcases.

The theater was built in approximately three weeks over the holidays and will be able to seat 85 people. Eventually, the theater will have cabaret tables to go along with a design that is in line with the larger theater next door. The theater comes equipped with light and sound and Hayes-Smith expects that it will soon find a following and people looking to stage events there.
