Dr. Thomas joins A New Start Counseling Center

A New Start Counseling Center, Inc., a privately owned outpatient counseling center located in Fayetteville, Ga., in the metro Atlanta area, is proud to announce that Damafing Keita Thomas, Ph.D. has joined our professional staff. Damafing is originally from Mali, West Africa, and she grew up mostly in southwest Georgia. She earned her Ph.D in Counseling Psychology from Georgia State University in 2008.

Dr. Thomas earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Georgia Southwestern State University in 2000 and earned a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Clark Atlanta University in 2002.

Her past work experiences include 6 years as a Licensed Professional Counselor at Clayton State and Georgia State University’s counseling centers; she has also worked in private practice and community mental health centers. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville’s (UTK) counseling center in 2008.

In her current work, Dr. Thomas provides individual psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of clinical issues including mood disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, family and behavioral difficulties, personality disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse and dependence, sexual trauma, stress management, and interpersonal issues.  She also provides couples therapy regarding issues such as communication problems, pre-marital issues and marital problems. In addition, she facilitates interpersonal process groups and conducts psychological evaluations for children, adolescents, and adults.

In her spare, time, Dr. Thomas enjoys international travel and she is an avid tennis player.
