A 46-year-old Riverdale man has been arrested by federal officials for the Aug. 15 armed robbery of the South Crest Bank in Fayetteville, police said.

Defined benefits is ‘feasible’, says committee

Fayette County’s workers could soon be seeing a major change in how their benefits are figured.

During last week’s County Commission workshop meeting, the commissioners heard a report from attorney John Kimball. Kimball is part of a study committee, including former Commissioner Scott Burrell, that is examining whether it would makes sense to switch from the county’s current retirement benefit to a defined benefits package, where each employee would receive a “defined” monthly amount.

Work begins as committee members start working on boundary maps

Now, the hard work starts.

Last Thursday, the committee charged with redrawing the county’s elementary school lines started looking at neighborhood planning units and maps to align each of the students in the county with an elementary school. The committee is slated to have new boundaries drawn for a November approval by the Fayette County Board of Education.

Fayetteville completes annexation of unincorporated island

It was a small tract of land on White Road and Ga. Highway 314, 2.5 acres in all, that was annexed into Fayetteville Aug. 6. The only hitch for the owner of the unincorporated island was that he wanted to establish a convenience store and gas station on the site.
