By: Ben Nelms
It has to be a record-breaking qualifying period for the cities of south Fulton. A total of 41 people qualified last week in the mayoral and council races for Chattahoochee Hill Country, Palmetto, Union City and Fairburn. Voters in Palmetto and Chattahoochee Hill Country will make a decision in the race for mayor in November. Qualifying in Palmetto were incumbent Clark Boddie and former Councilman John Miller. In the new City of Chattahoochee Hills, those qualifying included Don Hayes, Tom Reed and Rocky Reeves. The mass of qualifiers in the four cities paid their fees for the many council races. Council races in Union City, Palmetto and Fairburn are at-large. Qualifying for the two council seats in Union City were incumbent Helen Turner, incumbent Alisa King, Sandra Brittian, Retina Dawson-Young, Brian Jones, planning commissioner Ricky Ryles and planning commissioner Vince Williams. Qualifiers for Fairburn’s three at-large council seats included incumbent Frankie Arnold, incumbent Ron Alderman, incumbent Marian Johnson, Jeff Couch, Elizabeth Hurst, Bryan Paden and Jeral Todd. Qualifiers for the three at-large council seats in Palmetto included incumbent Leon Sumlin, Laura Mullis, Hunter Gillam, Scott Cannon, Natalie Beavers-McFadden and Lorraine Allen. City council elections in Chattahoochee Hill Country work in a completely different manner, with the city having been set up for council seats to be determined by district voting. Candidates for District 1 include Ruby Foster and John C. Taylor. The five qualifiers in District 2 include Doris Boylen, Carl J. Hattaway, Mark Prater, L. J. “Mickey Tierney and Julie Petty Wall. District 3 qualifiers include Anacleto “Cleto” Montelongo, David Hanson, Alton C. Powell and Laurie Searle. District 4 qualifiers included Faye Peek Godwin and Wayne Stradling. And in District 5, those qualifying included Ernie Henderson, Rodney W. Peek and Hugh Tyer. login to post comments |
