Fungus is plaguing air traffic controllersPassengers and crews of commercial aircraft flying high in the skies over a large portion of the southeastern United States are kept safe by air traffic controllers at the Atlanta Air Route Traffic Control Center in Hampton. But the safety of those keeping the public safe is being compromised. A majority of those employed at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) facility in Hampton have experienced one or more symptoms and illnesses that have plagued the control room for years. Many air traffic controllers believe the cause of so much illness is a fungus called Scopulariopsis and many of the Hampton staff live in Fayette County. County may change noise ordinanceThe Fayette County Commission may consider amending its noise ordinance to allow a resident’s request for his children to ride dirt bikes on a track they built on their property. Flu shots available Oct. 1Fulton County Dept. of Health and Wellness will begin offering flu shots Oct. 1 at its 12 health centers. Residents will be able to obtain the flu shot at a cost of $25. Sandy Creek volleyball goes undefeated at tournamentThe Sandy Creek Lady Patriots came out number one in the Collins Hill Classic this past weekend. The team of three seniors and six juniors went undefeated over the course of the tournament and finished with a perfect record of 14-0 and held many of the teams to ten points or less. They defeated Alcovy (25-4, 25-6), Ola (25-13, 25-8), Northgate (25-14, 25-21), Houston County (25-14, 25-10), Dutchtown (25-9, 25-14), Athens Academy (25-11, 25-8). In the championship game, Sandy Creek defeated Norcross (25-18, 25-18). Outdoor watering banned by stateFayette, Coweta and South Fulton residents have been ordered to drop almost all residential outdoor watering as the state continues to reel from drought conditions.
