Peachtree City officials are still working to acquire the necessary right-of-way to allow the cart path tunnel underneath Ga. Highway 74 at Paschall Road to be completed.

Construction crews continue to make headway on Senoia’s new police department and municipal court building on Howard Road. The $1.3 million facility is expected to open for business in late spring.

A proposal to amend the Coweta County Zoning Ordinance to allow for small neighborhood agribusiness operations was approved Dec. 15 by the County Commission. The approval came after a request by Scott and Nicole Tyson, who own approximately 10 acres in Sharpsburg and want to establish an agribusiness and agritourism operation centering on organically-grown foods.

Now without the day-to-day responsibilities of being Peachtree City’s Mayor, Harold Logsdon is continuing to work on his campaign to become Georgia’s next insurance and fire safety commissioner.

Plans to add 600 more parking spaces to Peachtree City’s NCR campus were approved recently by the city’s planning commission.

First came the announcement last month of Sam’s Club and NCG Cinemas. Now developer Scott Seymour says he would like to add to the 400,000 square feet already approved for the 44-acre northeast corner of Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road in east Coweta County, about a mile from Peachtree City.

Peachtree City resident and Navy Reservist Corey Malmer returned home this month from a year’s tour of duty along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

Malmer, an intelligence specialist, served on an embedded training team that helped train cohorts in the Afghan national army. Such work is considered crucial to the military strategy in the area as U.S. and coalition forces move towards the eventual goal of having the Afghan army, border patrol and national police trained well enough to take their country back with little if any outside aid.

An unnamed 15-year-old Marietta male has been charged with aggravated child molestation in an incident in which he is alleged to have made an 8-year-old Fayetteville girl perform oral sex.

An Atlanta man accused of robbing the Creekside Chevron in Peachtree City at gunpoint Dec. 19 has been arrested, police said.

Thirty-four year-old Fayetteville resident David Schumate has been charged with multiple felonies in the Dec. 26 armed robbery of the Walgreens pharmacy on North Glynn Street in Fayetteville.

Peachtree City police have charged an Atlanta man for the sawed-off shotgun robbery of Creekside Chevron on Ga. Highway 54 West in the early morning of Dec. 19.

Christmas is indeed the season of giving, and Peachtree City residents proved it again as they responded to the police department’s “Light Up the Night” toy drive.

With the community’s help, police were able to provide 42 children and six entire families with a Merry Christmas. On top of that, they were able to help the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services help another 25 children at the last minute.

Accessing Ga. Highway 74 to the north from Rockaway Road has been a long standing vehicular nightmare. The beginning of the Hwy. 74 widening project is now under way and the first construction project will be the realignment of Rockaway so that it ties in to the traffic signal at Holly Grove Road. Weather permitting, that realignment work is expected to begin sometime in January.

While the jobs picture certainly isn’t rosy, it improved slightly last month for Fayette and Coweta counties, according to statistics published this week by the Georgia Department of Labor.

It was in early summer that representatives of Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) met with government and business leaders from across Coweta County at Newnan City Hall to announce the city’s selection as the site of the company’s first hospital in the Southeastern United States. Earlier this week CTCA received a Georgia Dept. of Community Health Certificate of Need (CON) necessary to move ahead with the the 200,000 square-foot hospital in the Ashley Park commercial area.

With carols, candles and communion, churches all over the world Christmas Eve night will celebrate the birth of Christ, hosting special services and musical programs through midnight. A north Fayette man was arrested Dec. 16 for assaulting his wife in her residence off Greenview Circle, sheriff’s deputies said.

Peachtree City police are searching for a man who held up the Line Creek Chevron at gunpoint Saturday morning. There were no injuries in the armed robbery.

The Sears store at 539 North Glynn Street in Fayetteville was the target of burglars Monday morning who made away with a wall-mounted television and a chain saw.

Incidents of shoplifting are common around Christmas. A lot less common, though, is a group effort like the one at the Fayetteville Target last week in which a store employee and three women were all arrested for stealing.

Cases of lead-foot on Georgia highways will come with additional costs beginning Jan. 1. The state’s “SuperSpeeder” law will bring additional fines for high-speed travel on two-lane and multiple-lane roads.

The Fayetteville City Council gave approval last week to a long-evolving plan that will install permanent lighting to the property owned by Thomas Stephens on Tiger Trail. The site currently is used for league soccer play. Sixty-foot lighting poles were approved for the site.

Merchants at the Fayetteville Pavilion got some help from the Fayetteville City Council Dec. 17 when the board agreed to the installation of 11 additional monument signs along Pavilion Parkway.
