Explosive device at gas station disarmed

A small explosive device near a north Fayette gas station was safely disarmed shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday morning, authorities said.

The device was spotted at 7:30 a.m. near a dumpster outside the QuikTrip convenience store by an employee of the store, which is on Ga. Highway 85 north near the Fayette-Clayton county line, officials said.

Study concludes no public health threat exists

Tyrone’s budget tops $6 million

For the first time in its history, the town of Tyrone will consider a $6 million budget in June.
Town Manager Barry Amos said the first public hearing on the budget is June 7 and will not require a millage rate hike. But the town will not be able to rollback the rate, which is a fate many other local governments are also facing.
