Three Fayette graduating seniors are among the more than 2,200 students nationwide to receive Merit Scholarship awards financed by colleges and universities.

Educational institutions selected winners from among the finalists in the 2007 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend that particular college or university. Fayette’s winners include Matthew Glass of Whitewater High who will attend the University of Georgia, Andrew Ash of Starr’s Mill High who will attend Georgia Tech and Amanda Statham of Starr’s Mill High who will attend the University of Georgia. Their probable career fields are law, computer science and broadcast journalism, respectively.

Another group of scholars will be announced in July, bringing the total number of college sponsored Merit Scholarship recipients in the 2007 competition to about 4,600. These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
