Youth baseball, soccer officials OK with plan

Peachtree City’s sewer authority is ready to pump specially-treated sewer water to irrigate fields at the city’s Baseball and Soccer Complex off Ga. Highway 74 south.

It was a good night for a good cause. Partners Pizza in Tyrone did some partnering of their own May 7 with Tyrone Police to raise money for the Georgia Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run. Seven police officers and the town court clerk volunteered as servers at the restaurant, earning $865.78 between 6-9 p.m.

Four elementary schools were well represented at the Peachtree City Combined 5th Grade band concert recently at Booth Middle School and the Booth Jazz Band showed the younger students what they have to look forward to. The elementary schools included Crabapple Lane, conductor Jennifer Brinson; Huddleston, conductor Jennifer Brinson; Kedron, conductor Mitchell Birnbaum; and Peachtree City Elementary, conductor Leslie Minor.

Larris J. Marks of Fayetteville was selected by the Secretary of the Army to receive the Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service, the highest civilian honorary award granted for a Department of the Army civilian.

For the fifth consecutive year in its six-year history, the Air Force Junior ROTC (AFJROTC) Unit at Sandy Creek High as been designated a Distinguished Unit.

Students in the Air Force Junior ROTC program at Sandy Creek High have earned military scholarships each year since the program was implemented. This year is no exception with two students earning full scholarships and one gaining admission to West Point.

Coweta County Commission is set to hold two public hearing June 12 on proposed developments on Chestlehurst Road off Ga. Highway 16 just east of Senoia. One of the proposals seeks to rezone 8.459 acres from Rural Conservation (RC) to Light Industrial (LM) for offices, warehouses and shop space while the other seeks to rezone two tracts totaling approximately six acres to establish a church and Christian retreat facility.

A 27 year-old Palmetto man was arrested April 27, charged with the statutory rape of a 13 year-old girl at her home on the city’s south side. Police said the man had been living illegally in the United States for 16 years.

It was a while in the making, but a massive residential and commercial/office proposal is finally surfacing in Palmetto. The Foxhall Village proposal is billed as a 1,323-acre master-planned sustainable community located inside the Fulton County portion of Palmetto, according to a development of Regional Importance (DRI) application filed with Atlanta Regional Commission. The development application was filed by Merrill Trust Communities & Resorts, LLC. The proposed development is situated in the northwest portion of the city.
