Huge development planned near CowetaThu, 05/08/2008 - 3:25pm

It was a while in the making, but a massive residential and commercial/office proposal is finally surfacing in Palmetto. The Foxhall Village proposal is billed as a 1,323-acre master-planned sustainable community located inside the Fulton County portion of Palmetto, according to a development of Regional Importance (DRI) application filed with Atlanta Regional Commission. The development application was filed by Merrill Trust Communities & Resorts, LLC. The proposed development is situated in the northwest portion of the city. The application filed April 29 cites a 20-year build-out that would see construction of 5,400 single-family homes, condos and apartments and 1.1 million square feet of retail and office space. Palmetto City Administrator Terry Todd said Wednesday the proposed residential and commercial development should result in a substantial benefit to the city. “We’re looking forward to working with Merrill to have the kind of development that we can be proud of and that will be a significant benefit to Palmetto and to the developer,” Todd said. “It should be a showcase for the village concept that originated in Chattahoochee Hill Country.” The DRI process will likely continue through most of the summer, Todd said. Also filed with ARC was the application for Foxhall Resort & Sporting Club, a mixed use recreational resort club community located just across the Fulton County line in Douglas County near Capps Ferry Road and South Fulton Parkway. Plans call for up to 910 resort residential units and 2.3 million square feet of mixed use resort commercial. Build-out of the project is anticipated for 2020. The 1,300-acre Foxhall Village site was annexed into Palmetto in mid-2006. It was originally planned to be the first of three villages in what later became the city of Chattahoochee Hill Country and was part of the Chatt Hills Overlay. login to post comments |
