Illegal alien charged with rape

A 27 year-old Palmetto man was arrested April 27, charged with the statutory rape of a 13 year-old girl at her home on the city’s south side. Police said the man had been living illegally in the United States for 16 years.

Francisco Torres Landeros, a nearby resident of the 13 year-old, was charged with statutory rape, according to Palmetto Police Det. John Cooper.

Cooper said police were called by a family member at the girl’s residence shortly after midnight. The family member told Officer Ron Stripling that Landeros was found in the girl’s bedroom after noises were heard coming from the room. Officers were told that Landeros was found in the bedroom closet naked and that he ran out of the house after being discovered.

A search of the room concluded that there was no forced entry, Cooper said.

Residents at the home were able to provide Landeros’ address, Cooper said, after which Cpl. Michael Upshur and Officer Jim Cash arrived at the residence and secured it. Landeros was subsequently interviewed and admitted that he had had sex with the girl, though he maintained that it was consensual, Cooper said. Landeros told investigators that he had no green card and had been living in the United States since 2002.

Cooper said the result of the investigation appeared to indicate that the sexual incident was not forced.

A 13-year-old girl had a 27-year-old naked man hiding in the closet of her bedroom. . and your concern is his legal status!!! Number one - he's lucky her relative called the police - in my day, he would have been shot!! The residents evidently knew the scum, as they provided the police with his address. There are some unanswered questions here. I don't think this article included all of the facts. Someone in that house knew the scum was in her room. This girl should be removed from that home - and the scum from the country.

designed simply to incite hatred toward immigrants. This guy's legal status is tangential to the article, certainly not worthy of headline status. Fear-mongering, hate-mongering crap.

You know what's funny? Actually it pisses me off.. My mom had her social security stolen and being used by an african american woman. A US CITIZEN.. She opened accounts from many companies and nothing could be done about it because she said her mom did it, but her mom said she did it, so no one got what they deserved here.
Now my mom has everything (credit cards and so on) on alert.. Because it's OUR citizens who are more trouble than the illegals most the time. Maybe this stupid lady should be deported to Mexico..

The term "illegal alien" is used throughout the immigration laws of this country and is an apt term for describing people who knowingly have decided to live in the USA illegally. Any time one of these illegal aliens commit another criminal act, it certainly is more than tangential since they aren't even supposed to be here in the first place.

It isn't about hatred towards legal immigrants when you talk about illegals. That is the how the pro-illegals would like to shape the argument, but fortunately most Americans aren't interested at all in PC-speak when it comes to the very real problem of having millions of illegal aliens in your country and the fact that they represent the extremely alarming security risk America's very failed immigration policies and enforcement have brought.

Besides, it's Cal who writes the headlines, not the reporters themselves.

This jerk off's legal status has EVERYTHING to do with the crime. It's called accurate reporting. It shows how these freeloaders are hurting us.

We should drop this waste of clean water into the ocean and let him swim back to mexico.

is the fact that he is still here, illegally, and this crime would not have occurred if he had been deported.

By the way they make the girl appear, it most likely could have happened with any guy, white, african-american, latino, legal, or illegal..

Maybe they should keep a watch over the girl more than most illegals..

Gee only 19 hits, I thought it would be more. Anyways, I guess you believe in some form of PC censorship. Sorry, I suspect that's a path we don't want to take.

but Ben's math is a bit fuzzy...Living in the US since 2002 without a green card would be, at most, 6 years, not 16. Keep the faith.

Stop the Invasion (Paren la Invasion) was the cry in northern Mexico back in the 1840s when the U.S. moved the border south and took away from Mexico the territories of California, New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Texas, Nevada and parts of Utah and Oklahoma. I guess it's payback time now, the invasion will continue and willnot (cannot) be stopped. It is pure economics and demographics, jewels in a globalized world!

As for Cal writing these headlines, I guess it's his prerrogative, but we'd see if he uses the same measuring stick when reporting other crimes (e.g. U.S. Citizen Charged with Murder, etc.).

I always thought aliens came from outer space....

or laws currently on the books. There are exceptions for specific labor needs, so if one is to be here they should be here legally.

Some of the more progressive thinkers out there have a habit of not learning the lessons history has taught which have a tendency to be repeated. As an example, should the Native Americans had an enforceable immigration policy, we would not be having this conversation.

Just my two cents worth.

Submitted by A1226 on Fri, 01/16/2009 - 12:35pm.

And thank goodness the Native Americans didn't have a policy... wouldn't you say?!

Now that is a typical military comment with more thn one meaning (enforce laws currently on books).
You know that local law enforcement are not allowed by their bosses to arrest illegals for being illegal! Don't you. That is for two reasons: so they can pick peaches cheap, and because they don't want to pay for jailing or deporting them. Very hypocritical on the part of those who say keep them out, send them home, yet hire them by the thousands. Mike, if they aren't hired they WILL NOT come, you know that!

Don't give me the crap about we don't know if they are illegal so we hire them---it is not hard to determine! I kept three id's in my old business. Sub-contractors use is another way to deal with a slave driver and not the individuals.

All this stuff is known and could be stopped tomorrow--want to get on that wagon?

Oh I know, build a useless fence and then we will deport! Right. Works every time and creates jobs for millions and the military.
Just don't hire them--it is so simple. Or simply say: we want them here so our labor will be cheap. Get my yard mowed for half! Get my roof replaced for half. Our own laborers then have to work for nothing also. But I don't!!!

What is it with you about retired military guys? Of course if a non citizen is here, they should be here legally, if not go home. As I stated, there are exceptions and must be used. If an employer chooses to hire an illegal and is caught, perhaps a fine of the appraised value of his business/property and the deportation of the employees.

On a second subject, why is it that when I converse with you I get the feeling that I'm talking to a sign?

Submitted by sageadvice on Tue, 05/13/2008 - 12:23pm.

What do you mean about "retired military guys?" Like everything else some are OK, some are not.
Mrs. Tillman is on all channels today accusing Colonels and Generals and others for covering up Pat Tillman's death--even awarding a silver star after they knew who killed him. His own Mother!
Is this like Abu-Ghraib--a necessary evil in war?
I'm afraid the "culture" of military careers is well known--some get over it, some don't. Their connections in civilian life is also well known. I worked at a military contractor once that was full of Colonels, one and two star generals, all retired. Had wonderful offices, responsible for no one, and all they did was cohort with the Pentagon for contracts.
There just isn't enough on the ground war for everyone to be a hero, so to get ahead one must go along to get along and know how to talk.
By the way, I have no idea what heroic things you did in the military, and do not care. As they say about the guys in Iraq---they volunteered! For 6 mo., for 12 mo., for 18 mo., etc.
I am a vet Mike and have family serving. I'm just worried about leadership and their objectives.

You make it a point to select your considered most grievous instances to make your point. I'll not say the military is perfect, far from it, but then neither is the Catholic Church. I'm sorry that the leadership to which you were exposed was tainted, in your view, but suffice it to say, that is not my recollection.

I, sir, am no hero, nor have I professed to be. That said, I will paraphase a gentleman by the name of Richard Winters in recalling a letter he received from one who had served with him: "I'm no hero, but I served with a company of Heros". I would ask that you take heed in the quality of those currently serving and leading, for I have the utmost confidence in them to do that which is asked of them. After all, you and I are no less of men for serving, now are we?

Just my two cents worth.

There are very very very few visas for low-skilled workers, even though there is plenty of work for them here. If you are a doctor, nurse, or computer genius, there is a work visa available to you. Otherwise, you have to sneak in. No one would pay a coyote and take such risks if there were a way in legally.

Porque to queres hablar ariba de los cabesos de los gringos. Si tu queres decir una cosa, y si tu piensas asi, habla como un hombre poderoso y usa una idioma que todos pueden aprender.

For the record, if I went down to Brazil and killed a guy, the headlines would most likely say "Americano" or "Turista kills Brazilian man." I know sick of fascists has an understandable suspicion with the motives of this headline, but facts cannot be run from. It is fodder to be used against those who claim "all" illegal aliens are here to work and provide for their families. No, some are most likely wanted in another country, and bring that same behavior to the States when they come. No different from our runaway killer Marine who went to Mexico. What do you think the headlines said down there when he was caught?

Cheers,
