A Fayette man was acquitted this week of charges that he molested his daughter dating back to 2001 when she was 11 years old.

The first graduating class of McIntosh High School is planning its' 25th Reunion! The reunion will be held the weekend of June 26-28th.

The following arrests were made by Tyrone Police between March 16-24. Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty:

A program to retrofit city-owned buildings with energy-saving equipment has paid off for Peachtree City.

The first year of the program netted a $100,000 savings for the city in one year’s time, Mayor Harold Logsdon said last week.

A Peachtree City woman was cited for driving under the influence after her golf cart crashed into a stone wall at the tunnel under Peachtree Parkway at the Braelinn ponds area Sunday afternoon, police said.

Georgia Department of Labor (DOL) reported Thursday that the unemployment rate in the 5-county Chattahoochee-Flint area rose to a preliminary unadjusted rate of 10.7 percent in February. For Coweta County the situation is less severe, with a revised January unemployment rate of approximately 8.0 percent. The jobless rate in the Chattahoochee-Flint area rose nine-tenths of a percentage point from a revised 9.8 percent in January.

For business owners, 2009 Occupational Tax Certificate Renewals (formerly Business Licenses) are due to the City of Newnan by April 1st. 

Coweta County Commissioners last week unanimously adopted a resolution for an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) required by Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA). The county and all municipalities are signatories on the EOP that must be in place to be eligible for disaster funding.

Things may have been quiet lately but they are far from resolved. Thomas Crossroads Starship Adult Novelties & Gifts CEO Kelly Rogers will have a mid-April business license appeal hearing in the county commission chambers before members of the Business Occupational Tax Rate and Appeals Committee. In diametric opposition to the county’s position, Rogers maintains that the quantity of sexually-oriented merchandise in the store will be below the 25 percent required by the ordinance in effect when he made the application, thus negating the stipulations of the new ordinance.

The high price of speeding tickets is about to get even more costly. Georgia’s new “SuperSpeeder” legislation passed out of the House and Senate March 25 and is expected to be signed into law by Gov. Sonny Perdue.

A major motion picture, "Zombieland," is scheduled for this weekend to shoot scenes in Newnan for the upcoming horror/comedy starring Woody Harrelson. Filming is scheduled to begin in downtown on Saturday. Shooting will take place on a portion of Greenville Street in the vicinity of East Broad Street and the Court Square. Shooting will also take place at a home on Wilcoxon Street and on LaGrange Street at the railroad overpass.

The faltering economy is taking another hit on the Panasonic operation in Peachtree City.

Panasonic Automotive Systems Company of America recently announced it would cut 200 positions in the United States as demand continues to weaken for its products due to the decline in the automobile industry, said company spokesman Jim Reilly.
