Suspect who 'took money' for sex to be tried later A Peachtree City man convicted of raping a woman at her Harmony Village apartment was given a 30-year prison sentence by Superior Court Judge Johnnie L. Caldwell Jr. today. Ulises Chavez was convicted last week of rape and also burglary for entering the woman's home without her permission. Caldwell sentenced Chavez to 20 years on the rape count and a consecutive 10 years for the burglary charge. The other defendant in the case, Isreal Martinez Ruiz, was convicted of criminal attempt to commit rape. He was sentenced to 12 months in prison by Caldwell. The victim, 19, testified last week that when she woke up in her bedroom Aug. 30 from being passed out after a night of drinking, Chavez was having intercourse with her. She said that Ruiz then told her they both paid a third man to have sex with her. The third man is scheduled to be tried at a later date. That man, Jeffrey Donnell Jones, is also charged with rape and burglary. login to post comments |
