More than 9,000 elementary school students in Fayette County will participate in the upcoming Fayette Youth Power Parade to raise funds for Fayette Youth Protection Homes.

The week of March 30-April 3, the students will participate in a daily walk-a-thon held during P.E. classes. Money raised helps FYPH, a non-profit organization that offers a safe haven and support services for children who have been victims of abuse or neglect.

Students will solicit pledges in the community. The student who raises the most wins a trip for four to Disney World. The second place winner wins a 12-foot trampoline with a safety enclosure.

Each student who raises $25 or more will receive a T-shirt. The deadline to turn in pledge money is April 3.

This is the 18th annual Power Parade.

“As we have in years past, we will award some great prizes in this year’s event. But what’s most important is that the students are learning to give back to their community and are helping, in some cases, their own peers.” comments FYPH Executive Director, Becky Davenport.

Fayette Youth Protection Homes operates a residential group home for school-age children known as the Friday-Johnson Home.  At the home, which is located in Brooks,  children receive comprehensive services in a loving, home-like environment.  The organization also oversees a private foster care program as well as a clothing and supply closet for foster children in Fayette County and surrounding areas.
