Covenant Presbyterian members head for Jamaica

Eleven members of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville will travel to Jamaica July 18-24 for a week of ministry with Praying Pelican Missions. The group will partner with Westgate Hills Baptist Church to support the Montego Bay suburb, encourage the church, and build relationships with the local people.

Tony McGee of Newnan (above) recently taught on “Spiritual Warfare” at a meeting of a local chapter of The International Order of St. Luke the Physician (OSL) in Sharpsburg. The OSL is an ecumenical organization dedicated to the Christian healing ministry. Members meet together in local chapters to study Scripture, especially the biblical stories of the healing miracles, as well as other books on Christian healing. Heritage Preschool now accepting fall registration

Friendship UMC to host ‘Won By Faith’ gospel group June 28

Friendship United Methodist Church in Fayetteville will host a singing service Sunday, June 28, at 11 a.m.

The service will be highlighted by the award winning gospel quartet, “Won by Faith” from Dallas, Ga. The group has sung with groups such as The Florida Boys, The Dixie Echos, The Anchorman and Palmetto State Quartet.

Concerts planned in Newnan, PTC

GraceFlock Band, Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church’s contemporary worship band, will present a free pre-tour concert Thursday, June 18, at 7 p.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Newnan. Later this month nine of the musicians will tour Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois for two weeks, playing concerts and offering workshops. The group has released two compact discs, “Living Gifts” and “Alive in the Lamb.”

All Saints Anglican Church of Peachtree City recently honored seven of its members graduating from high schools and colleges. The Rev. Michael Fry presented the graduates who were present to the congregation and prayed for their future success.

Epps to be enthroned as diocesan bishop June 19

David Epps, pastor of Christ the King Charismatic Episcopal Church, Sharpsburg, will be enthroned, or installed, as a diocesan bishop in services on June 19. Epps, who was consecrated as a bishop in November 2007 and assigned as an auxiliary bishop for the Southeast Province will become the Bishop of the Diocese of the Mid-South which includes the states of Georgia and Tennessee and a mission in Illinois.

Family and Friends weekend planned
The Branches Community Church in Fayetteville will have its annual Family and Friends weekend June 13 and 14, beginning with a Family and Friends Fun Night Open House Saturday, June 13, from 6-8 p.m. The Family and Friends worship service will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Sunday, June 14. The church is at 282 Ga. Hwy. 314, Suite B., Fayetteville.

VBS is next week at FBC Senoia

All children ages 4 through those entering fifth grade are invited to Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church of Senoia from 6 to 8:30 p.m beginning June 8 and ending June 15.  This year, kids will visit the the ancient city of Rome, traveling back into Bible times, and learn about Paul and the early Christian church.

Last month, I wrote about meeting God with the sum of our parts, our scars, our wounds. It’s how the resurrected Christ appeared to his disciples — showing them the wounds left from his resurrection. It gives us hope that we, too, despite our wounds and our sins, can still share in that resurrection. This month, however, I’d like to focus on a time when there is healing from disability.

Some 20 eighth-graders stood to publicly confess their faith in Jesus Christ in the Rite of Confirmation at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church May 3. After three years of preparation, they affirmed their baptism and became adult members of the church.

New Hope Baptist will host career workshop this month

The Lighthouse Church’s FOCUS youth group recently participated in the 30 hour famine with Bethel United Methodist Church in Tennessee. The youth fasted for 30 hours and raised money each hour for food pantry ministries. Once all the pledges came in the group had raised over $400. All kids who have completed kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to join the Discovery Canyon Vacation Bible School at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Monday-Friday, June 15-19 from 9 a.m.- noon. Program celebration is on Sunday, June 21 during the 9:30 a.m. service.
