Dr. Don Harp will speak at Brooks UMC homecoming

Brooks United Methodist Church will celebrate Home Coming Sunday, June 21, featuring a special guest, the Rev. Dr. Don Harp, who will preach at the 8:45 and 11 a.m. services

A covered dish lunch will follow the service and Dan Langford, the local historian, will share a presentation on the history of Brooks. Those planning to attend are asked to bring a favorite dish to share.

Harp grew up in Fayette County, the son of a farmer. Now retired, he was the senior minister at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Atlanta for 20 years. The church currently has almost 7,000 members.

Harp was graduated from Fayette County High School, played baseball there and is a member of Fayette County High School’s Sports Hall of Fame. He was graduated from Young Harris Junior College, received his bachelor of arts degree from Huntingdon College, his master of divinity from Emory University, and his doctorate of divinity from McCormick Theological Seminary at the University of Chicago.

For more than 43 years, he has served in ministry to the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. An avid fisherman, quail hunter and golfer, he also enjoys cooking and country music. Harp is married to the former Mary Ellen Dendy of Montgomery, Ala. They have two children, Allen (married to Julie) and Robin (married to David Bennett), and five grandchildren.
