rains, blocked storm drains add up to flood waters in Fville
Several Fayetteville
homes and an apartment complex were damaged by flood waters during torrential
rains that began late Monday night.
Absentee
ballots delayed
Fayette County absentee
ballots, along with many across the state, have been delayed. Although
all other statewide election votes will be cast using the new electronic
voting units, absentee ballots will be paper as in the past. Per the
Secretary of State Press Office representative, Cara Hodgson, redistricting,
the pushed-back election dates and two legislative recounts have resulted
in the delays. Georgia Election Code states that absentee ballots must
be available 45 days prior to the election. Counties should have had
the completed ballots on September 21st to be in compliance. However,
many, like Fayette County, did not receive ballot proofs until this
week. Once received the County has 24-hours to review and send to the
printer if correct.
North
Fayette teacher headed to Japan
When the opportunity
knocked, Chrishirella Warthen of North Fayette Elementary answered and
now she is among a select group of educators nationwide who will travel
to Japan to learn more about the country's culture and customs.

endorses Cox
State Rep. Kathy
Cox of Peachtree City has been endorsed by the Georgia Association of
Educators in her bid to become Georgia's next state school superintendent.
Rezoning
suit between developer, Fayette County nears trial date
If Pathway Communities
has its way, a Superior Court judge will overturn the Fayette County
Commission's rezoning of its 364-acre parcel just north of Peachtree
City on the westbound side of Ga. Highway 74.
Tyrone
getting hot over lack of response to fire impact fee improvement request
Last year Tyrone
collected $100,000 in fire impact fees from builders but was told by
the county that they wouldn't see any improvements funded with the money
raised for over 10 years. Several weeks ago the Tyrone town council
had town manager Barry Amos draft a letter to the county requesting
the county re-examine the capital improvement projects that would be
funded by the fire impact fees. They have yet to receive a response
from the county.

NAACP banquet Oct. 26
The Fayette County
NAACP is preparing for its Freedom Fund Banquet, set for Oct. 26 at
the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center in Peachtree City. Alonzo Hall,
president and CEO of International Agile Manufacturing in Statesboro,
is the keynote speaker.

welcome at Peeples
Peeples Elementary
School hosted its first annual "Grandparents and Granola"
breakfast Sept. 20. It was attended by students in grades K-5 and their
grandparents.
Dedication
ceremony Oct. 13 for Minter school
One
of Fayette's newest elementary schools, and the only one in the county
to be named after a local teacher, is asking the community to help honor
its namesake at the school's upcoming dedication ceremony.

Shriners pledge towards hospitals
The Fayette Shrine
Club, located on Ellis Road in north Fayette County, is the home of
115 local members. They purchased a former daycare building in 1994
and are quick to participate in local community affairs as well those
overseen by the Yaarab Shrine center in Atlanta.

County High School Homecoming
Fayette County High
School will start its homecoming celebration Thursday with a parade
on Tiger Trail at 6 p.m. with floats made by the classes and various
clubs. As the parade ends at 7 p.m., the floats will proceed to Tiger
Stadium for the first annual Junior-Senior Tiger Powder Puff game. Admission
is $1.
