It's the biggest store ever in Peachtree City. And the big retail doors on the city's west side open wide next week and will stay open day and night thereafter.

The 205,000 square-foot, 24-hour Wal-Mart Super Center opens in Peachtree City next Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 a.m.

Shoppers will find that the discount chain is catering to local clientele, store manager Charles Hedden said. The golf cart customer will find plenty of parking as well as batteries, tires, and other accessories and a repair center for these ubiquitous Peachtree City vehicles. An expanded wine selection and more organic produce will also be available.

Hedden said last month that his staff, which includes about 450 employees, was well ahead of schedule for opening.

This is the fourth store opening for Hedden, who has been with Wal-Mart for more than nine years. The Riverdale native has operated stores in New England and in the Southeast. He joins two co-managers who are also from the metro Atlanta area: Randy Willis, food manager, who is a lifelong resident of Sharpsburg, and Billy Roberts, general merchandise co-manager and a resident of Vinings. Willis has worked at the Wal-Mart store in Fayetteville and Newnan. Roberts has worked at the Fayetteville store as well.

Hedden commented that he was pleased with the quality of applicants for jobs at the store, many of whom has previous experience with Wal-Mart stores in the area. Most came to work with local market knowledge as well.

Hedden said Wal-Mart's interest in Peachtree City reflects their desire to provide convenient shopping for area residents who are already shopping in the Newnan or Fayetteville stores.

The store is located off Ga. Highway 54 West next to Home Depot and across from the entrance to Planterra Ridge subdivision.
