Duck Derby at CCSU Oct. 12
On your mark, get set, quack! And they're off! Hundreds of rubber ducks will race across a Clayton State lake Saturday, Oct. 12, for the fourth annual Darlin' Duck Derby. Proceeds from the 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Derby will benefit the Rotary Club of Clayton County Daybreak and Clayton County's CASA, a program working to give safe, loving, and permanent homes to abused and neglected children. Ducks may be purchased with a donation of $5 per duck or $25 per "six-quack." Each duck will be numbered. Sponsors will be presented with ticket number(s) corresponding with their duck(s). Tickets will be available at the University up to 30 minutes before the race begins. If your duck bobbles across the finish line first, you win a 27-inch color TV. Second place wins a digital camera; third place wins diamond hoop earrings; and fourth place wins a DVD player. Other possible prizes include cosmetic gift packages, Costco gift certificates, an outdoor grill, and more. Want to win $50,000? Prior to the race, one random numbered duck will be designated as the "secret duck." If the secret duck crosses the finish line first, the person holding that ticket number wins the grand prize of $50,000. For this prize and all other prizes, you do not have to be present to win. The Darlin' Duck Derby consists of two races. Corporate sponsors will let loose their ducks at 12:30 p.m. Individual sponsors will send their flock afloat at 1 p.m. In addition to the race, bring your family to the Derby for entertainment, food, kid's games, and face painting. The Platinum sponsor of the Darlin' Duck Derby is Clayton County's News Daily. Gold sponsors of the Derby include: Wilson Pharmacy; the City of Morrow; and Borghese Cosmetics.
