Tyrone getting hot over lack of response to fire impact fee improvement request
By MICHAEL BOYLAN
Last year Tyrone collected $100,000 in fire impact fees from builders but was told by the county that they wouldn't see any improvements funded with the money raised for over 10 years. Several weeks ago the Tyrone town council had town manager Barry Amos draft a letter to the county requesting the county re-examine the capital improvement projects that would be funded by the fire impact fees. They have yet to receive a response from the county. Councilman Raymond Bogenschutz had hoped for a response to the letter. "We have generated a third of the fees collected due to a lot of new developments in Tyrone and yet we're at the very end of the schedule for improvements. It seems very one sided," said Bogenschutz. Councilman Paul LeTourneau requested that Chief Jack Krakeel be invited to the council's Oct. 17 meeting so that the council could voice their concerns. There are eight fire departments in the county, only one of which is in Tyrone. The town is well protected by other fire departments in the county but all the members of the town council are disappointed with the lack of a reponse from the county, as well as generating a large portion of the fees and not seeing the benefits of it for many years. The council would like to see improvements moved up to somewhere between 2006 and 2007.
