It is not every day that a person breaking the law willingly makes comments at the scene of a crime that leads to their arrest. But that is what happened with 19-year-old Fayetteville resident Robert Hinman after a house fire on Dec. 24.

Feds offer phone tax refund this year

Burglars sought in holiday thefts

One man was arrested and charges are pending on two other men in two business burglaries Dec. 15 and 16 in Palmetto.

Timothy Foster, 23, of Palmetto, was charged with two counts of burglary, one count of criminal damage and one count of theft by taking, according to Palmetto Det. John Cooper. Related to the investigation, 19 year-old Brittany Morris, of College Park, was charged with obstruction, said Cooper.

Jenkins Road property passes Tyrone’s Planning Commission

A request to amend Tyrone’s Land Use Map and rezone eight acres on Jenkins Road near Flat Rock Middle School for construction of several homes succeeded with a unanimous vote Dec. 28 by the town’s Planning Commission. The vote came with opposition by neighbor Charles Bagwell who believed construction of several homes would be an improper use of the property.

A Fayetteville day care employee has been arrested for causing a “serious” arm injury to a 14-month old boy at the center, police said.

Police also revealed Thursday that they are investigating a second child abuse case at Magnolia Park Day Care Center that was reported Dec. 1 although no arrests have yet been made. And a local attorney reported that a third similar incident dating back to September has now been reported to Fayetteville police.

That was one of the comments made recently by a Philip Services Corp. (PSC) employee who had first hand knowledge of the chemicals inhaled by residents in large areas of Fayette and south Fulton counties during the summer and fall. Affected residents maintain that those chemical emissions emanated from the company’s waste treatment plant on Ga. Highway 92 near Fairburn. The story is not new, with hundreds of area residents claiming that their illnesses were due to emissions of chemical odorant Propyl mercaptan and organophosphate pesticide MOCAP. What is new is having confirmation of the similar symptoms by someone employed at the plant.
