By: Ben Nelms
One man was arrested and charges are pending on two other men in two business burglaries Dec. 15 and 16 in Palmetto. Timothy Foster, 23, of Palmetto, was charged with two counts of burglary, one count of criminal damage and one count of theft by taking, according to Palmetto Det. John Cooper. Related to the investigation, 19 year-old Brittany Morris, of College Park, was charged with obstruction, said Cooper. One of the burglaries occurred in the early morning hours Dec. 16 at Spurlin Industries, Cooper said. Burglars entered the store at 625 Main Street by prying open the front door and stealing three hand-buffers and five power drills, according to reports from Cpl. Mike Upshur. The other business burglary occurred sometime during the evening hours of Dec. 15 and the early morning hours Dec. 16 at the new Flash Foods/McDonald’s restaurant at 9140 Roosevelt Highway, Cooper said. Burglars broke into a locked trailer in the rear of the property and entered the main building by breaking through the McDonald’s drive-thru window. The theft included assorted tools and 500 pounds of copper wire, Cooper said. Thieves also did significant damage to the store’s electrical system, he added. The situation took a turn for the better when Officer Allen Robinson, who had responded to the Flash Foods/McDonald’s call, followed a path behind the store that took him to the nearby railroad tracks. It was there he found the items stolen from both burglaries, Cooper said. While at the scene Robinson noticed a vehicle carrying three males and one female. Subsequent contact with two of the occupants resulted in Foster’s arrest and the arrest of Morris by Officer Mike Simpson. The investigation of the burglaries in continuing and other arrests are pending, Cooper said. Anyone with information concerning these crimes is asked to contact Det. John Cooper at (770) 463-9068. login to post comments |
