Planning Commission denies commercial rezoning

(See video included) More than 200 jubilant residents paraded out of the Kedron Field House in Peachtree City Monday night after the Planning Commission unanimously denied a rezoning request that would have created one of the biggest shopping centers in Peachtree City. The development, slated for the intersection of Rockaway Road and Ga. Highway 74, would have featured a Lowe's, along with numerous other commercial sites that would have set nearly 300,000 sq.ft of commercial space at the doorstep of the Wilshire Estates subdivision. Attorney Rick Lindsey, who represented the developers, said the site was perfect for a commercial center and would feature several amenities to make it a perfect match for Peachtree City. But resident after resident walked to the podium and beseeched the Planning Commission to leave the zoning at General industrial. The Planning Commission agreed, but now the matter goes to the Peachtree City Council in April for a final vote. See the full story in Wednesday's Citizen.
