Interested persons are invited to participate in a stroller walk to promote awareness on preventing child abuse April 11 from 10 a.m.-noon at Patriot Park on Redwine Road in Fayetteville.

Moms, dads, grandparents and other caregivers are invited to bring their little ones out for a stroll around the park. Parenting tips, child safety, and how to identify and report child abuse will be shared.

One of the goals of the event is to promote positive parenting, organizers said.

“Child abuse prevention is everyone’s responsibility,” explains Becky Smith Executive Director of Fayette FACTOR (Fayette Alliance Coordinating Teamwork, Outreach, and Resources). “The best way to prevent child abuse is to strengthen the ability of parents and communities to care for their children’s health and well-being. Preventing child abuse is a shared responsibility. Children depend on the adults in their lives to keep them safe, healthy, and happy.”

Participants in the event include Fayette County Department of Family and Childrens Services, Health Department, Advo-Kids CASA, FCBOE, Pre-school Dept., Grace Harbour, Inc., Souns Music Program for Children, and the County Extension Office.

Refreshments and door prizes will be offered.

This sounds like a very worthwhile and very needed event. However, what is the rationale behind scheduling it on April 11th- a Wednesday?!? Parents are invited to come out with their children for the event so we're going to schedule it from 10am-noon on a Wednesday?!?

Good luck with that turn-out.
