It is the end of a law enforcement era. Palmetto Police Chief Bobby Fronebarger recently announced his retirement after more than four years in south Fulton city and more than 41 years in law enforcement. His retirement takes effect Sept. 2. Fronebarger is known for his professional approach to law enforcement and for a laid-back style that is always accompanied by a smile.

A discussion by Coweta County commissioners last week on whether to stay in the Chattahoochee-Flint Regional Development Center (RDC) or to join Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) was delayed until the commission’s Sept. 4 meeting.

Coweta’s growth continues

If you thought that Coweta’s growth is continuing, last week’s Census Bureau report confirmed that suspicion.

Coweta’s population was 118,936 as of July 1, 2007, and the county had 29,881 residents classified as minority, 25.3 percent of the population. Coweta’s white population increased from 81,012 in 2003 to 95,261 in 2007 for a growth rate of 17.5 percent.

A 16-year-old Peachtree City boy was cut by a knife late Wednesday afternoon during a confrontation between "numerous subjects" at the Luther Glass Park in Peachtree City, police said.

Another juvenile was struck in the head with a skateboard during the incident, Peachtree City Police Chief Skip Clark said Thursday afternoon.

F'ville south side Kroger wants to expand

The south side Kroger in Fayetteville is looking to add to its presence at 805 S. Glynn Street. A proposal at the city’s Planning Commission work session Aug. 12 would add 13,920 square feet to the existing 55,000 square-foot grocery store.

2 Fayette schools in top 25 for ACT

McIntosh and Starr's Mill high schools both cracked the top 25 highest average scores for this year's ACT.

McIntosh was third in the state with a score of 24.8, and Starr's Mill was fifth with a score of 24.2.
