Remembering Dan

Family and friends of former Peachtree City resident Dan Lakly held a special ceremony Saturday morning to unveil a city street that was renamed in his honor. Dan Lakly Drive, which runs in front of the McDonald’s where Lakly had coffee with friends every morning, was formerly known as Peachtree Crossing East. Lakly served as a city councilman, county commissioner and state legislator during his political career. He died in October of a heart attack. Photo/Special.

Dan was a hard working and straight shooter. You may not have agreed with him, and trust me, I often didn't, but you knew where he stood on the issues. None of this hemming and hawwing like Obama.

Which reminds me of again another example of where the local Republican Party has gone astray. Several years ago, a certain County Commissioner, soon departing, asked to take a lead role on a committee to find a suitable tribute in Fayette County to honor one of the greatest Presidents, Ronald Wilson Reagan.

A poll was taken during the Primaries of that year, and overwhelmingly, the Repubican voters thought this was a good idea. But like so many other things the Local Party has failed to do, the idea never found any leaders willing to get off their fat rear ends and push for this tribute.

Which again reminds me to ask the Current, and oncoming Commissioners, many who read these blogs religiously, I am told, that I would love to serve on said committee should they finally make a pledge to honor our President with a tribute here in the most Conservative County in Georgia.

Why has it taken this long for something to have been done? There is absolutely no reason why we haven't found a proper way of honoring President Reagan.

So what say you? I know this is only symbolic in nature, not to mention other pressing issues, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try and find a way of showing thanks to the Gipper.

(Perhaps Spear Road could be renamed Ronald Reagan Pkwy? Nah, the road is too winding and weaving, with many hills and pot holes. Reagan Parkway should be straight as an arrow, where you can see that Light up on the hill for miles and miles. Plus who would want to live there anyway?)

Perhaps since Nancy was pregnant when they got married, Michael thought the cook was his mother until he was five years old and Ronnie and Nancy didn’t see their grandchild until he was eighteen months old, they could get the Republican Family Values Tribute.

At the ceremony we could distribute cakes in the shape of keys to commemorate his selling weapons to Ayatollah Khomeini and bobble head dolls of Reagan which repeat “we will never negotiate with terrorist” over and over and over.

Oliver North could broadcast it on the radio and he and Panamanian dictator Manuel Noreiga could be guests of honor; they’re out of jail now aren’t they? Oh, yeah, that’s right… North never went to jail for his sixteen felonies; the ACLU got him off on a technicality. Maybe John Poindexter who was convicted on multiple felony counts for conspiracy, obstruction of justice, perjury, defrauding the government, and the alteration and destruction of evidence could attend too. Isn’t he working now for President Bush?

I’ll come. When’s the ceremony Richard?

Do you have this blog set up with a pager or phone, such that when someone acknowledges Reagan in a heartfelt manner, you're immediately notified?

There is so much wrong with what you've said, but I'm too tired to get into an argument, or at least not one such that it will be memorilized over time. Nope, I'd rather just have a good Monty Python Argument.

C'mon Jeff, I know liberals really loathe Reagan, but what's far worse, is that they loathe the love that many still feel for him today. It's a hurt that keeps on hurting. Personally, with your intimate connection with history, I wonder how you can handle it. Your skin must be like rawhide. Which might be a good thing, then again. . .

Oh well, I'll just reply by saying and reminding you all, that Russia's expansionist plans back in the 80's is beginning to be seen again. And just like the 80's where Liberals and Democrats stood in the way of fighting that expansionism, they are doing it today. Read Obama's comments about Russia and Georgia, or his ideas of a nuclear free world, all the while the Russians are talking about nuclear weapons in their comments about Poland. Even bringing up recently putting missles back in Cuba, oh, and maybe in your father's good friend's home, Venezula. Do you think your dad will be brokering that agreement between us? I can see your dad talking about the fairness of allowing Russia to put a dozen ICBM's in Cuba and Venezula as being the fault of America's technology from the Star Wars plans in the 80's.

Oh well, back to work.

I guess it’s just incredible luck(?) that I happen to check just after you have tinkled on the site with your words of wisdom.

You say there is so much wrong with what I said about the Republican Messiah, would you like references? I can look it up for you in Michael Reagan’s book if you want.

As to Obama calling for a nuclear free world, he’s just echoing (OMG) Reagan! It was in all the MSM. Here’s an article from the leftist Wall Street Journal by that known cabal of leftists: George Shultz, William Perry, Henry Kissinger and Sam Nunn which references Reagan’s vision:

A World Free of Nuclear Weapons

Oh, I saw your guy’s comments about the Russia/Georgia thing, “let’s bring ‘em in to NATO”. Stupidest thing I’ve heard in ages! Got any kids you want to send to Georgia to fight the Russians? McCain’s getting as senile as…..
