Remembering
Fayette leader Tom Farr
[Editor's
note: The following eulogy was given July 13 at First Presbyterian Church
of Peachtree City by the man credited with founding Peachtree City,
Joel Cowan, for his friend, county business leader Tom Farr, 60, who
died July 10.]
How
I got the 2nd grade blues
By BILLY
MURPHY
Laugh Lines
The summer before
I entered the second grade, my family moved from England to Macedonia,
S.C. It was a little community where they valued bacon and egg breakfasts
and house trailers above all else. My dad had just retired from a 24-year
stint in the Air Force.
Arm

Last Wednesday,
the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the Arming Pilots
Against Terrorism Act (H.R. 4635) in a 310 to 113 vote.
LETTERS TO THE

Fayette
diminished by passing of Tom Farr
The vaunted quality
of life in Fayette County has been diminished by the passing of Tom
Farr.
Farr
helped local church get through a tight financial time
It was with surprise
and sadness that I read of the untimely passing of Tom Farr.
Get
thee down to Sams for Offshoot's Shakespeare hit
My first effort
to our neighborhood news is to shout praise for Offshoot's Shakespeare
hit! Their splendid cast, directed by Susan Steadman, music written
and acted by young Paige Steadman, her youthful associates, who served
as apprentices, dancing fairies, spoofing donkey, hilarious Puck and
historic Ferrol Sams Auditorium all deserve a crowd!
While
I do agree with some of what Billy Murphy says in his column on racism
[The Citizen, July 10], I feel the need to address one particular piece
of his argument (I will leave it to someone with firsthand experience
as an African-American, Mexican-American, Haitian immigrant, etc., to
address the most obvious flaws).
PTC

Thursday, July 18,
the Golf Cart Committee will present [its] recommendations to Peachtree
City Council.
Wheat
aims for win-win approach for county, cities
Last week contained
only one attack letter from our opponent's campaign. So we are making
progress in changing the tone from attacks to issues. Now if we can
just get our opponent to begin addressing the issues! Our issue this
week is cooperation.
Wheat
is not telling 'the rest of the story' on pay
I see that Mike
Wheat is trying to make a campaign issue of the pay system for our county
commissioners. It might be useful for the voters to hear "the rest
of the story."
Check
Wheat's record as F'ville mayor: Rezone, annex, develop
Local politics sure
are interesting! Here we have a candidate seeking a County Commissioner's
seat, who through his spokeslady, Meredith Wynn, takes exception to
any type of criticism directed towards her client from any source.
Commission
more than 'part-time' job
A recent letter
from Mike Wheat's campaign referred to the commissioner's job as being
a part-time policy-making position requiring only three or four meetings
a month.
Ott
wrong; Bob Irvin also has campaigned in Fayette County
In reference to
the Stephen Ott letter to the editor regarding Saxby Chambliss' involvement
in Fayette County: I have attended at least three events in Fayette
in which Bob Irvin was present and spoke knowledgably of the problems
facing Fayette County and the other southern counties around Atlanta.
Is
county water tower rule, 'Paint it, then demolish it'?
Maybe I missed the
news article, but I was hoping the Fayette County Water System could
help me with a question.
Readers
moved by Fayette man's quest
Honoring our
past enhances our future
Lanham's
tenacity is amazing
I really enjoyed
and appreciated Sherri Smith's article about Eddie and Felicia Lanham.
Great
man, great article
I have known Eddie
for several years and had no idea that he was so active in historic
preservation. I knew he was active in several civic endeavors and am
pleased to get more depth on his activities.
'A
great piece' about mission
The article by Sherri
Smith, Fayette builder on a personal mission: Wow, what a great piece.
Impressed
with love of history
I enjoyed reading
the article Sherri Smith wrote on Eddie and Felicia Lanham and the placing
of the monument to Col. Benjamin Hawkins in Crawford County.
Need
more news like this
You need to report
more news like this. It's just too bad there aren't any more around
like him to write about. Eddie never met a deceased veteran that he
didn't like.
Ancestor
also was honored
What a wonderful
story! And what a rewarding mission Eddie Lanham is pursuing.
Unique
story
Your story on Eddie
Lanham was most unique and a great piece.
