Get thee down to Sams for Offshoot's Shakespeare hit

My first effort to our neighborhood news is to shout praise for Offshoot's Shakespeare hit! Their splendid cast, directed by Susan Steadman, music written and acted by young Paige Steadman, her youthful associates, who served as apprentices, dancing fairies, spoofing donkey, hilarious Puck and historic Ferrol Sams Auditorium all deserve a crowd!

They put Shakespeare Tavern of downtown Atlanta in the shade. We have seen three quite acceptable and dramatic productions, more costly, but none so real or amazingly humorous as Offshoot's Shakespeare. We were mesmerized by the magical, mysterious revelry of dreams, hand-to-hand combat and romance, imaginatively enacted.

If you live in Fayetteville for 10 years or more, you think of our community as appreciative of artistic culture and drama. All of that was obviously present in Sunday's third performance of "Midsummer Night's Dream." Even not having read the synopsis or the whole play, it is totally awesome to feel lifted in spirit and caught up in the lifelike conversation of the genius of Shakespeare. To see through the eyes of a mostly youthful, committed cast, you will discover genius at work before your eyes.

Two more weekends to take your family and friends: July 19, 20, 21 and July 26, 27, 28.
