As pines keep the shape of the wind even when the wind has fled and is no longer there, so words guard the shape of man, even when man has fled and is no longer there.

Dave Hamrick's legacy: Make the most of each day
By AMY RILEY

Our community has come up short this past week. We aren't the same today as we were a week ago, and we won't be the same next week as we are today. Such is the way of this world.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Hamrick's patriotism more authentic than a thousand flags

It was the longest, most intense, most impassioned, most exciting and most controversial political conversation I had ever carried on with one single individual. Dave's untimely death brought it all to an abrupt halt.

Dave was that rarest of species: a Georgia native

Clayton State [University] lost a friend last [week]. Dave Hamrick husband of Development/Alumni Relations Terri Taylor-Hamrick, father of Gabe and Nancy, managing editor of The Fayette Citizen, former Clayton State interim sports information director, spelunker and soccer enthusiast died suddenly at the age of 51.

Dave wrote from the heart

I was shocked and very saddened to learn to of the sudden demise of The Citizen's Dave Hamrick.

Too many unfinished talks

Dave, I just came back from a trip to find you are gone.

Saddened by untimely passing

I was shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of a great American, Mr. Dave Hamrick.

Georgia native remembers Dave as 'all heart'

As a native Georgian, transplanted in North Carolina, I feel the loss hugely. I remember Dave from when I was just 4 years old and older. He was all heart. My condolences to the staff at The Citizen News.

Thoroughly enjoyed Hamrick's weekly columns

My condolences on the loss of Dave Hamrick. I never met him, but I've thoroughly enjoyed his columns.

Schools moving toward untested year-round idea

Do you know how [the balanced calendar] will affect your family and the community? It's also known as year-round education, year-round school, modified school calendar, extended school year, alternative calendar, and education for all seasons.

BOE, vote for calendar 1

To the Fayette County Board of Education:

Letters from losers: PTC residents must be wary

Wednesday's Page 5 of The Citizen could easily have been headlined "Letters from Losers."

Is Mayor Brown a 'do as I say, not as I do' person?

Once again, Mayor Brown has demonstrated his knowledge and "Johnny come lately" foresight, just as he had when he decided to run for the position.

Keep buses, give road money

GRTA has offered $12 million to Fayette County if we pay $1.2 million toward buses we do not want, will not work and do not need. The point is that the $12 million they are offering to us is our money. It came from our gas tax dollars, we paid for it and want it back.

A kind of elder abuse is occurring here in Fayette

Thank you for your article regarding Fayette Senior Services (FSS) in last Wednesday's newspaper.

Seniors not being treated well at local Senior Services

I am writing in response to the article in the March 6, 2002, edition of The Citizen concerning the forum on service needs are of persons age 60 and older. The notice for the forum was published in The Citizen and stated: "Interested persons are invited to comment ... there is no limit on topics."

Budget hearing had no budget; services missing
