The Fayette County Board of Education Monday night got a glimpse into the future of learning. And it didn’t take a crystal ball to see that the future of the emerging 21st Century Classroom initiative is centered in technology.

The Fayetteville City Council will take up a variety of issues Thursday night, including the consideration of a proposal to increase parking downtown and another relating to the lighting of the privately owned soccer field at Tiger Trail and Hood Avenue.

Most areas of county have 25 percent of residents earning less than $1,200 a month

Newly-released data from the Atlanta Regional Commission shows that the lion’s share of Fayette County residents have jobs earning more than $3,400 a month.

The health departments in Fayette and Coweta counties have a very limited supply of H1N1 shots available.

State health Communications Officer Hayla Hall said Monday morning the vaccine is available for pregnant women only. Those receiving shots are required to have either verbal or written consent from their obstetrician.

UPDATE: 2 suspects in custody

A man armed with a baseball bat stole an undisclosed amount of cash from another person at a home on Hillside Drive early this morning, sheriff’s detectives said.

These e-mails falsely indicate that recipients should download and open a "personal FDIC insurance file" to check their deposit insurance coverage. The "insurance file" may actually be a form of spyware or malicious code and may collect personal or confidential information.

Coalition: County has no data showing road is needed; seeks halt to future bypass spending

A group of citizens opposing the under-construction West Fayetteville Bypass are threatening to file a suit against the county to halt the second phase of the road.

Besides being the largest employer in the county, the Fayette County School System is also the owner of some expensive — and unused — real estate. And aside from the obvious use of most of its property for schools and offices, how much land is lying unused and off the tax rolls?

The campaigns for three Fayetteville City Council posts are winding down. Here is a look at what each of the six candidates has raised and where it came from.

It was a 10-week, non-stop crash course in everything law enforcement. And when it was over Sept. 18, Fayetteville Police Capt. Jeff McMullen had graduated from the FBI National Academy. McMullen, along with 254 other officers from 48 states and 21 countries completed the 238th Session at Quantico, Va.

Judge orders $800 fine, forbids drug/alcohol use while on 12 months probation

Horgan attorney: he didn’t purchase nor grow the marijuana

Fayette County Commissioner Robert Horgan entered a no contest plea today on charges stemming from his May 23 arrest for misdemeanor possession of marijuana and driving with an expired tag.

Fayette County State Court Judge Fletcher Sams sentenced Horgan to 12 months probation (concurrent/consecutive), an $800 fine and 40 hours of community service. Also while on probation, Sams ordered Horgan to avoid any drug or alcohol use for which he will be tested during the probation period.

20% of new SPLOST would go toward transportation

While the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax up for voters’ consideration Nov. 3 is not focused exclusively on transportation, such projects encompass more than $27 million of the anticipated $135 million the tax would raise.

Charter Bank in Tyrone was robbed shortly after opening Wednesday morning. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

Police Chief Brandon Perkins said a black male entered the Charter Bank branch in Tyrone on Carriage Oaks Drive at approximately 9:09 a.m. and brandished a silver semi-automatic handgun. The man forced employees into the vault after having the teller empty her drawer into a garbage bag.

But in the upcoming movie “Amelia,” about the life and disappearance of famed aviator Amelia Earhart, it was the presence on the film set of the 1936 Lockheed 12, exactly like the one Earhart flew on her last flight, that will make it special for aircraft aficionados and for its owner, Fayetteville resident Joe Shepherd.
