The Fayetteville City Council will take up a variety of issues Thursday night, including the consideration of a proposal to increase parking downtown and another relating to the lighting of the privately owned soccer field at Tiger Trail and Hood Avenue. The council will also decide whether to institute penalties for alcohol violations from two restaurants, a grocery store and a convenience store. The board Thursday night will hear a proposal from Main Street and the city engineering department to approve a request that the Georgia Department of Transportation allow the city to change the parallel parking on the Stonewall Avenue side of the old courthouse to angled parking. If approved, the new parking configuration would increase the number of parking spaces from 9 to 18. Though previously denied by GDOT, city staff found an identical parking situation in Lawrenceville. Council members Thursday will again take up the issue of lighting for a soccer field on property owned by Thomas Stephens and located at the corner of Tiger Trail and Hood Avenue. Stephens was allowed in August to continue to use temporary lighting at the site and was to submit a plan for permanent lighting. City Planner Linwood Robinson said Stephens is requesting that he be given until Dec. 31 to complete the plan. Robinson said city staff recommend that the temporary lighting be removed if Stephens has not received approval for a permanent plan by that date. Also at the meeting, Aldi Foods, El Ranchero Restaurant, La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant and Phillips 66 Food Mart on North Glynn Street were cited in violation of the alcohol ordinance after an Aug. 7 inspection by Fayetteville Police. The managers at Aldi and El Ranchero were cited for allowing employees to sell alcohol without permits. The council will consider Police Chief Steve Heaton’s recommendation of revoking the serving permit for violators and issuing a $500 fine and a warning to the businesses. login to post comments |
