In his first book, “Chiefs,” Stuart Woods used the name of a friend from the University of Georgia for the name of one of the characters in the book. That friend, Julius Holt, now lives in Peachtree City and used the lines from “Chiefs” to reintroduce himself to Woods last Sunday afternoon at a book signing at the Peachtree City Literary Festival. $60 million county budget gets OK

It only took a few minutes of discussion Sept. 23 for the Coweta County Commissioners to unanimously adopt the county’s 2009 General Fund budget totaling $60.5 million. The discussion was the last of several that had been held on the budget in recent weeks.

Rezoning for Pathway’s Twelve Parks approved

Coweta County Commissioners Tuesday night approved Pathway Communities rezoning request to establish Twelve Parks retail and office component to complement the larger residential project previously approved near Sharpsburg. Commissioners approved the RC (Rural Conservation) zoning category change to O-I (Office – Institutional) and C-7 (Commercial Major Shopping District).

Seymour says Fischer Crossing still on track

Fischer Crossing developer Scott Seymour says the payment now due one of the three parcels included on the large retail development at Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road in east Coweta will be resolved by the end of the month. Bank of Coweta last week called in the loan on the parcel situated in the northeast corner of the retail center. Work on the other two parcels will begin before the end of the year, Seymour said.

Coweta 2009 budget up for vote next week

Coweta County commissioners Sept. 16 held a public hearing on the county’s proposed $60.5 million General Fund budget that will take effect beginning in October. The increase of approximately $900,000 in the proposed 2009 budget represents an increase of just over one-percent. Commissioners are expected to adopt the budget Sept. 23.

Piedmont Newnan hospital heliport approved

It is one more step along the way. Coweta County Commission Sept. 11 unanimously approved a Special Use Permit request by Piedmont Newnan Hospital for the installation of a heliport adjacent to the new hospital that was approved for construction in the spring.

It was not your typical 5K Run/1 Mile Walk Sept. 6 as more than 100 turned out for the inaugural run of the Peachtree City Toga Trot at Phi Mu headquarters on Westpark Drive. The event was sponsored by members of the national sorority group Atlanta Southern Crescent Alumnae Panhellenic Association (ASCAPA) and Peachtree City Rotary Club. The event was a joint fundraiser for ASCAPA’s scholarship fund and for Rotary’s Polio Plus Foundation. Those organizing the event included George Martin, Kelly Bowman, Cele Eifert, Angela McFarlin, Seanie Zappendorf and Leigh Mitchell.
