On Saturday, if you hear the rhythmic beating of the drums in Peachtree City, dont worry. It doesnt mean that the natives are getting restless, it just means that the dragon boats have returned and the races have begun.

Increasing in popularity around the world, people are finding that dragon boat races are a great way to get people outdoors, building teams and teamwork and having fun.

Last years event was such a success in Peachtree City that the dragon boats had to return, if only for some teams to try to avenge last years losses or disappointing falls into the lake.

The Rotary Club of Peachtree City brings the second annual Dragon Boat Races and International Festival to Drake Field on Lake Peachtree this Saturday, Sept. 27 beginning at 8 a.m.

Teams consist of 25 persons: 20 paddlers, one drummer, one steer person and three alternates. Last year over 2,500 attended to watch 21 boats compete. The Rotary Club of Peachtree City expects this years event to be much larger.

Registration will last from 8 a.m.-9 a.m., and heat races will last from 9 a.m.-noon. The lunch break will last from 12-1:30 p.m. and heat races will resume from 1:30-4 p.m.

There will be a short break from 4-4:30 p.m. and the finals will take place from 4:30-4:45 p.m. The trophy presentation will follow. 92.5 FM The Bear will do a live remote for three hours and once again there will be a kids area with a bounce room and slides.

The International Festival will be held in conjunction with the races. The objective of the Rotary festival is to raise awareness of our cultural diversity and increase interest in international commerce through the interaction of the community, business and the arts. What better way to learn about other cultures than to enjoy the food and fun. There will be food vendors in colorfully decorated tents. The flavor of the wonderful food will be complemented by spotlights of entertainment. There will be something for everyone.

All proceeds from this event will support Rotary community projects including: Alzheimers and Breast Cancer research, Fayette youth programs, clean water programs, Fayette senior services, Boy and Girl Scouts, the Fayette YMCA and many other community projects.
