Golf cart smashed by tree

A Peachtree City resident was seriously injured when a large tree fell on a golf cart Monday afternoon, city fire officials said.

The tree, approximately 18 inches in diameter, fell across the cart, narrowly missing a direct blow to the victim, who was treated by paramedics before being flown to the trauma unit at Atlanta Medical Center by helicopter.

The incident cause the cart's roof to completely cave in.

I was the driver of this golf cart. I had just stopped and was about to get out of the cart when I heard a loud snap of the tree, I looked around and out of the corner of my eye I saw the whole tree coming at me. All I had time to do was dive out to the left, the main fork off the tree hit me on the head as I dove out. Later I woke up still under the tree and it's branches. The approx 100 foot tree fell across the golf cart and I still have no idea why the tree fell, there was no wind and the tree appeared to be healthy and had leaves on it.The tree snapped off about 5 ft from the ground and the roots were still in the ground. I just came home from the hospital with multiple injuries. I wish I could give some insight to why this happened, but I don't know why.

Glad to know you are home; hope you heal quickly, so sorry to hear about your mishap.

Glad to see your home 96, you better spend more time home away from rafters, trees, etc… or other things that you may fall through, or may fall on you, you’re using up your "nine lives". By the way, your wife told me when you came to, and called her, she told you to hang up and dial 911, but you said you didn't know the number. Obviously you had your bell rung.

My professional, trucking husband was on the interstate near Macon and a tree fell right across the front of his big rig as he was driving 60MPH. The tree was dead and the wind caught it and lifted it up and onto his tractor/trailer. It smashed his windshield and side mirror! He was shocked! My husband has received good driving awards over the last twenty years and this was not his fault! SOMETIMES, THINGS JUST HAPPEN!

The first thing we should be worrying about the person that was injured and wishing him/and her a quick and painless recovery. and here you people are always wanting to discuss topics that do not pertain the the article or blaming the mayor. and then you have the idiot talking about trees. Peachtree City......Get over yourselves.

To the person that was injured, i wish you a quick and painless recovery.

I clearly stated I was saddened to hear someone was badly hurt, and did wish a smooth recovery . . .did you not see that part.

Further it is of interest if it was an accident that caused the tree fell; if the tree just fell over. I would be interested to know if I need to be on the lookout for falling trees next time I'm out.

This idot is wishing you a happy afternoon.

Hogan is a what we called a "square" years ago. (unconventional)

It always helps when one gets hit by a tree and people you don't know write a blog about being sad about it! Don't waste money on flowers, send him or them some money for the hospital and doctors and gas!

"An accident that caused the tree "fell" ? Lost out on that one!

I wouldn't advise for you to be looking up at trees that might fall while driving!

Happy afternoon!

Did I miss something in the article . . .I'm curious as to how or why did the tree fall?

Sorry to hear someone was badly hurt, hope recovery is smooth.

I have lived here 25 years and trees fall every year onto the cart path.

The odds are however that a golf cart being under it at the time are slim!

There are a bunch of them hanging over the path that could fall--we elect not to cut them.

You asked how it fell. I expect down.

I don't know any one who wishes the fellow a long recovery.

Ya know sometimes your comments get me so aggravated it makes my ulcer boil. On the other hand there are times you make me laugh - your comments above make me laugh.

There is a fellow I once knew, who now resides at Greenwood, I've decided you must be his double. He sooooooo enjoyed being the devil's advocate, it just made his day to aggravate and upset people by arguing with them and egging them on.

At any rate "trees" makes me laugh. Have a good afternoon.
