Murder victim fled to Florida

Several weeks before she was shot to death by her husband at a Fayetteville dentist’s office Tuesday, Flossie Cooper Tyson had fled the state of Georgia to get away from her husband, according to Bonnie Campbell, executive director of the Fayette County Council on Domestic Violence.

Because most of Fayette County’s police agencies have special detectives assigned to investigate sex crimes, victims of sexual assault here get a higher level of service, according to Jennifer Bivins, executive director of the Southern Crescent Sexual Assault Center.

Odor source at Belk could remain mystery

The origin of the mysterious odor that cleared the Belk department store in Fayetteville and sent six people to the hospital Wednesday may never be known, according to Sgt. Bill Rieck of the Fayetteville Fire Department.

Last month three men were convicted by a Fulton County jury. These three men ambushed Eric Haney, pointed an assault rifle at him and forced him into his apartment. They made him lie down on the floor and threatened to kill him. Then they stole his SUV to get away.

40 Days of Purpose

Throughout the South Metro churches of Atlanta you will see banners and church signs with the words “40 Days of Purpose.” Before I discovered what this was, I thought to myself, “Ho hum, another church program.” It is interesting how wrong we can be at times. Fayette County defeats Valdosta in first round

The Fayette County varsity boys soccer team was the second seed in region 4-AAAAA, which meant starting the state playoffs at home. The Tigers did not disappoint their fans, defeating Valdosta 7-1.

Fayette Lady Tigers take fourth in region

The Riverdale Lady Raiders track team took the title this week in the Region 4-AAAAA track championship meet at Starr’s Mill High School.

Fundraiser ongoing for Phillips

Buick Scramble coming to town

The Buick Scramble, entering its third decade as the world’s largest amateur golf tournament, is scheduled to host a local championship Saturday, May 8, at Flat Creek Club in Peachtree City.

Police going to hoop against students

The Peachtree City Police Department will be facing off against the seniors of McIntosh High School in a charity basketball game May 11. Not only will this game serve as a rematch from the previous charity basketball game in 2003, but it will also serve as the last official event in the original McIntosh High School gymnasium.

Tigers Soccer Camp rolls again this summer

Ben Thacker, head boys soccer coach at Fayette County High School, will again be conducting the Tigers Soccer Camps this summer. Two sessions will be for field players during June 7-10 and a goalkeeper camp will be held June 14-17.

Free golf lessons offered this month

In May, amateur golfers and those interested in learning the game of golf in the U.S. can get free 10-minute golf lessons from the experts in golf instruction, The PGA of America professionals. PGA Free Lesson Month is part of a national campaign that The PGA of America is leading called “Play Golf America!”
