Buick Scramble coming to town

The Buick Scramble, entering its third decade as the world’s largest amateur golf tournament, is scheduled to host a local championship Saturday, May 8, at Flat Creek Club in Peachtree City.

Sponsored by Southtowne Buick of Newnan, four-person teams with certified USGA handicap indexes are eligible to compete in the Buick Scramble Local Championship at Flat Creek Club. An invitational tournament, at least one member per each team must be a member of Flat Creek Club in order to be eligible to compete.

Taking place with tee times beginning at noon, Southtowne Buick will showcase the 2004 line of Buick vehicles at the local championship, and will award an all-new Buick Rainier to anyone recording a hole-in-one at the designated hole. In addition, replica Tiger Woods Buick-Nike golf bags will be awarded to winners of closest-to-the-pin and long-drive competitions. Interested teams can sign up for the local championship at the golf shop or Wednesday, May 5.

PGA Tour professional and Buick spokesperson Tiger Woods returns as the Buick Scramble Honorary Chairman for the 2004 season. As the Buick Scramble Honorary Chairman, Woods, 28, is scheduled to present the trophies to the 2004 Buick Scramble National Champions at the awards ceremony following the conclusion of the final round of the National Championships. The 2004 National Championships is scheduled for Oct. 7-10 at Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando, Fla.

“Buick is excited about our return to Grande Lakes Resort for the national championships in October,” said Larry Peck, Buick’s golf marketing manager. “In addition, we are thrilled to have Tiger Woods continue in his role as Buick Scramble honorary chairman in 2004.”

Winning teams from the local championship at Flat Creek Club will advance to compete in the Buick Scramble Georgia PGA Sectional Championship in the summer. Two winning teams from each PGA Sectional will advance to the Buick Scramble National Championships in Orlando.

Sanctioned by the PGA of America, the Buick Scramble is the world's largest amateur golf tournament, hosting more than 1,600 local championships nationwide annually. Local winners advance to one of 104 PGA Sectional Championships, with those winning teams advancing to the Buick Scramble National Championships.

Entry fees for the tournament are $55 per player for members and $110 for non-members, which include cart, greens fees and a variety of Buick Scramble tee-gifts and incentives, including a dozen Nike golf balls and a $50 redeemable Buick Scramble test-drive certificate.
