If you want to burn leaves or debris, today is the last day to do it until the fall. A senior at McIntosh High School died Monday morning after her car collided head-on with a truck on Ga. Highway 16 in Coweta County, deputies said. Robert Wood is currently serving as chairman of the Contracts Committee of the Coweta Courts Complex and it is estimated that Wood saved the county over $200,000 so far in this effort. Thanks to Coweta-Fayette EMCs Operation Round-Up program, six Coweta County facilities (Newnan Senior Center, Grantville Senior Center, Senoia Senior Center, Coweta County Fairgrounds, Newnan Recreation Department and the Hunter Complex) have received automated external defibrillators. The new building for St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Sharpsburg may be seen on its 40-acre site much sooner than anticipated. The initial capital campaign, Our Faith, Our Future has raised more than 73 percent of its goal of $1.2 million in just five weeks. The drive will continue until the $1.2 million figure is realized. Only the Fayette County Tigers allowed a goal in a first-round game and they only allowed just the one, defeating Valdosta 7-1. The Lady Chiefs captured their region crown by beating Carver (3-0), East Coweta (3-0) and their own tough match with Starrs Mill (3-2). Last year, the McIntosh Lady Chiefs made the state finals while the McIntosh boys and the Starrs Mill boys and girls made the state semifinals. Starrs Mill took on Riverdale Tuesday and won 4-2 in nine innings with Kyle McCreary hitting a home run in the top of the ninth. Danny Hartpence went 4-for-5 for the Panthers, scoring two runs and hitting two doubles. Blake Nation picked up the win, pitching five innings and giving up no runs and no hits, while striking out four.
