Coweta County Commissioner Robert Wood will seek a fourth term in this year’s elections.

Robert Wood is currently serving as chairman of the Contracts Committee of the Coweta Courts Complex and it is estimated that Wood saved the county over $200,000 so far in this effort.

Wood has served as Chairman twice since being elected in 1992. He was chairman when the Coweta County Fairgrounds was initiated and the water purchase from Atlanta was completed. Wood was serving as Chairman of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia Revenue and Finance Committee when the tag purchase dates were changed to reflect the birth date of the owner of the vehicle, rather than all tag purchases being in the first three months of the year.

“I remember so well the first budget meeting I attended as a commissioner, a budget with a deficit of about 1.8 million dollars was presented to us, Mr. Vernon Hunter and I looked at each other and instantly said this budget needs to be balanced, the rest is history. I remember during the campaign of 2000, we were attacked for not spending our surplus (savings), the savings made a big difference in our tax digest last year. That saving is helping us to better serve this county every day. “

When the 62-year-old grandfather was asked what prompted him to run again, he said “ all of my life I have loved to help people. All people have a better quality of life though love and understanding, through cooperation and tolerance. My love for humanity teaches me that love is cooperation, not competition. Quality of life is not where you live, what your heritage is, or who your daddy was, quality of life is how you love your neighbor, your family and your God, quality of life is how you serve humanity.”

“I want to see the Courts Complex completed but more than that I want to see a more complete Coweta County. By that I mean more cooperation between local governmental units and better communication between elected officials and the public we serve. I try never to forget that my service to the citizens of this county is a privilege, that it is stewardship, not ownership.”

Wood have a large family, though, he is an only child. However he has hundreds or maybe thousands of cousins in Coweta County. Wood is the father of nine children and the grandfather of 26 soon to be 28. He said his first grandchild would be graduating from high school June 11, 2004. His wife, Deloris, is his partner in the real estate business.

Wood, holds a bachelors degree from San Diego State University in accounting. He is a licensed real estate broker in the State of Georgia. He holds the following real estate designations, ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative), CRB (Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager), e-Pro (Electronic Professional). Wood is a candidate for CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member/National Association of Realtors). Robert is currently serving as President-elect of the Newnan Coweta Board of Realtors.

I think I have made a difference in Coweta County, and I hope it will resonate in some small way long after my tenure is over.
