Man who killed wife had been arrested for assault before

The Tyrone man who shot and killed his estranged wife at a Fayetteville dentist’s office Tuesday afternoon was arrested by Tyrone police in February for an altercation that occurred between the couple.

All clear after mysterious odor reported at Fayetteville store

Emergency crews using sophisticated air quality monitoring equipment were unable to detect any contaminants at Belk department store at Fayette Pavilion after shoppers and employees there reported dizziness and nausea from smelling an unknown odor Wednesday afternoon.

Peachtree City Planning Commission approves all on agenda

The agenda for Monday night’s Peachtree City Planning Commission was filled with a public hearing on a proposed rezoning and viewing a concept plat and several conceptual site plans, including one for the Peachtree City Library’s expansion. Everything got approved by a unanimous vote from the commission.

WASA to discuss septage rates, tour construction sites at Monday’s meeting

The Peachtree City Water and Sewerage Authority will meet at 6 p.m., an hour earlier than usual, Monday so that authority members and members of the public can tour the constuction site. When they return at 7 p.m. one of the items on the agenda will be a public hearing to establish septage rates.

MHS senior dies in head-on collision Monday morning

A senior at McIntosh High School died Monday morning after her car collided head-on with a truck on Ga. Highway 16 in Coweta County, deputies said.

Coweta County Commissioner Robert Wood will seek a fourth term in this year’s elections

Robert Wood is currently serving as chairman of the Contracts Committee of the Coweta Courts Complex and it is estimated that Wood saved the county over $200,000 so far in this effort.

Senior centers get defibrillators

Thanks to Coweta-Fayette EMC’s Operation Round-Up program, six Coweta County facilities (Newnan Senior Center, Grantville Senior Center, Senoia Senior Center, Coweta County Fairgrounds, Newnan Recreation Department and the Hunter Complex) have received automated external defibrillators.

St. Mary nears goal

The new building for St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Sharpsburg may be seen on its 40-acre site much sooner than anticipated. The initial capital campaign, “Our Faith, Our Future” has raised more than 73 percent of its goal of $1.2 million in just five weeks. The drive will continue until the $1.2 million figure is realized.
