Starr’s Mill and McIntosh girls and boys golf teams head to state

The Starr’s Mill boys and the McIntosh girls captured region golf titles at White Oak Golf Course earlier this week. The Panthers defeated the Chiefs 300-315, while the Lady Chiefs defeated Starr’s Mill with a score of 164-208.

McIntosh’s Drew Atkinson was low medalist, winning in a four-hole playoff against Ben Creighton, while Kristine Schiavone was low medalist for the Lady Chiefs, winning in a one-hole playoff. Atkinson finished with a 74 and was followed by A.J. Brundrett, 79; Matt Matala, 81 and Sam Beall, 81. Creighton was followed by 75’s from Jordan Carpenter and Seth Hickey and a 76 from Connor McBean. It was the second consecutive region championship for Starr’s Mill.

Following Schiavone’s 82 were Meghan Wiggs’ 82 and Lindsay Vallo’s 85. Starr’s Mill got strong performances from Ashley Dunham (103), Leah Sanders (105) and Stephanie Webb (117).

The state championships will take place at Jekyll Island Monday, May 10.
