New elementary schools ready for first day

The two new elementary schools Sara Harp Minter Elementary on Ga. Hwy 85 South in Fayetteville, and Cleveland Elementary at 190 Lester Rd. in Fayetteville will open their doors to students for their inaugural school year Monday morning. Despite some circulating rumors, both facilities will be ready to go.

Local student attends leadership conference

Beau Kelsch, a 14-year-old freshman at McIntosh High School, recently attended the week-long American Red Cross Leadership Development Conference at Emory University. According to event organizer Kristi Couch, the annual conference is designed to provide "focused, thought-provoking, skill-building experiences in leadership and service."

My wife and I just returned from two weeks in Australia where, for the first few days, she presented research at an international symposium in Brisbane. Cindy, the bright one of the couple, has a Ph.D. in nursing and is an associate professor in the nursing department at the State University of West Georgia. So, off she went to share concepts of which I have little understanding. My role was to act as her escort, bodyguard, and credit card carrier.
