County, city may reach an accord on Rockaway annexation

It looks like Coweta County and Senoia will finally agree on an annexation request.

During Tuesday's County Commission meeting, the county heard a request from Donovan Gossett who wants to annex 15 acres on Rockaway Road into the city to build a single family subdivision.

County planner Robert Tolleson told the county he would recommend filing an intent to object because the property in the city's R-40 Open Space zoning would allow a higher density of development than the county's residential zoning districts.

But Tolleson suggested a compromise that would allow lots to be a minimum one-half acre, as long as the lots are served with public water and sewer.

The planner also said 50 percent of the tract would have to remain as open space and any homes bordering the county's property be a minimum of 1,450 sq.ft.

Gossett attended the hearing and agreed to the compromise offered by Tolleson.

But the County Commission still had to vote to oppose the annexation until a formal request comes from the city of Senoia to agree to the compromise.

Gossett appeared confused, but Tolleson explained the county could not accept Gossett's offer, unless it came from the city.

Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter explained as soon as the city agreed to the compromise, Gossett would be free to develop the property and the county would drop its intent to object.

Since Gossett agreed to the compromise, Hunter said the city should not have a problem with the agreement.

Gossett's subdivision would be the latest in the rapidly-expanding Rockaway Road corridor. Hutchinson's Cove subdivision is well underway, and a sign is now up announcing Steve Entrekin's subdivision on there busy road.
