Team USA scores in London
By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
They were four girls from Fayette County going to London, England, with the Team USA cheerleading team to compete against teams from around the world. Now, they are back in the states and they know they are number one. Danielle Wolf, Megan Cason, Megan Ealy and Joelle Pettus were the flyers for Team USA at the British International Championship Open. Flyers are the people who get tossed into the air during the cheerleading routine. Team USA beat out teams from England, which finished second, Korea, Italy, Denmark, and South Africa among others. While in England, the girls went on sightseeing tours. They saw the changing of the guards at Buckingham palace and were interviewed on the BBC with their 22 teammates. Team USA received one trophy but all of the members of the team received medals. They were also invited back to defend their title next summer. Now, the local girls will go to their respective gyms and prepare for their upcoming tournament season. A new gym, Premier Cheer Academy, will open in September. It is founded by Jon Murchison, who put much of Team USA together, and Paul Grochelle, who has worked with past national champion teams.
