'Fall Festivals' are confusing to our children

God created trees on the third day of creation. No Christian in his right spirit, however, stops and hugs a tree in order to show appreciation to it. God created the moon, the sun, and the stars on the fourth day of creation. No Christian, however, lifts his heart unto the moon or sun. Pharaoh may have worshipped the sun. But we don't. We know what he didn't: the sun will burn out one day.

Janet Kenney is new director of youth ministries at Inman

Fayette County native Janet Kenney has assumed duties as director of youth ministries at Inman United Methodist Church. Kenney grew up in the membership of Hopewell United Methodist Church in Tyrone and was graduated from Fayette County High School.

Mary McDonald to present piano, organ concert at Covenant Presbyterian Nov. 4

Knoxville's Mary McDonald, a multi-talented composer, arranger, producer, pianist and organist, will present a free concert of organ and piano music in the sanctuary of Covenant Presbyterian Church Saturday, Nov. 4, at 3 p.m. McDonald will perform on the concert grand piano and on the pipe organ.

The Greater Solid Rock Baptist Church in Riverdale will host the 40th annual meeting of the New Era Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Sunday, Nov. 11, through Thursday, Nov. 15. The opening ceremonies will begin with a welcome program on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. and will be dedicated to the victims of the Sept. 11 tragedy.
