Here's
an idea how to prevent this mess

While we're contemplating
the need for reforms in our voting system a need that has become evident
due to the close vote in Florida why not consider this:
Time
to get involved in textbook selection
By AMY RILEY
One
Citizen's Perspective
As many of you may
already know, the Fayette County school system is in the process of
reviewing textbooks for the upcoming math textbook adoption cycle. It
is expected that the final selections will be presented to the board
in late January.
How
much really is 'enough'?
By
ALAN ATKISSON
[Editor's note:
How much is enough? Especially during the holidays, it's a question
many Americans struggle with. How much is enough free time, family time,
money, food, household space, savings, etc.
Just
shut up
By BILLY
MURPHY
Laugh Lines
I want to take a
break from my Christmas columns and shoot from the heart and write from
the hip. I have never liked the rudeness of the word "shut up,"
I much prefer the French translation, "fermi la douché."
Yet, just like Mark Twain (or was it Samuel Clemens) said of cursing,
"Bad words are like the flag, they should be displayed only on
special occasions and then so, with enthusiasm." So I have something
I have been wanting to say to some people for awhile: "Just shut
up."
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
DOT:
Brown wrong on Hwy. 54 allegations
Recently several
articles and editorials have been printed in your newspaper regarding
Georgia Department of Transportation's involvement in the State Route
54/Wal-Mart development project in Peachtree City. Our department understands
concerns that the public has regarding new developments in their community,
including traffic congestion, overcrowding and poor air quality, among
others. However, there seems to be some misconception regarding the
Georgia DOT's role in this issue.
Calling
all tooters, tweeters and bangers: Somebody is looking for you
In the mystical
land just south of a great metropolitan area there resides a species
of humans little known to the rest of the world, the "Tooters,
Tweeters and Bangers (TTBs)."
AT&T
has made strides in meeting challenges
I've been asked
may questions recently about the restructuring of AT&T. Most of
the questions revolve around how the restructuring plan will affect
my company, AT&T Broadband, and the impact on our customers.
Ban
those cell phones while driving a vehicle
Lately, I have witnessed
some wild driving from people behind the wheel of an automobile. This
is more often the case, because these people are more concerned with
what is going on inside their vehicle than they are driving it. When
this happens the roads are no longer safe and an accident can become
an innocent person's worst nightmare.
Thanks
from Domestic Violence Council
Our organization
is able to provide services to victims of domestic violence because
of the overwhelming support and generosity of our community. An example
of this type of support occurred Nov. 18 when the Fayette County Council
on Domestic Violence held its 12th annual Fashion Show/Silent Auction.
The purpose of this letter is to publicly thank the many individuals
who made that event possible.
How
to stop Pavilion thefts
Subject: ways to
make less thefts at the Fayette Pavilion.
Challenging
fate has assurance
A lot of times we
just have to challenge fate. Obstacles arise, seasons change and the
wind blows from a different direction.
Keep
it up, Hamrick
Saw [Dave Hamrick's]
article on "the real constitutional crisis" (Opinion, Dec.6)
when stopping over in Fairburn for lunch on the way home to Marietta.
Excellent! I'm afraid that the liberals have become so jaded in their
perspective that they cannot think rationally nor honestly. Keep reminding
your readers of the truth.
Shame
on Max, Zell and Demos
In The Citizen Nov.
29 Letters, e-mails, faxes: "Demos not supporting military,"
you inadvertently took part of my comments out of context.
Tag
office has its act together
I would like to
compliment the Fayette County Tag Office. I have had a couple of occasions
to use the office in the last several months. Each time the service
was fast and excellent. The workers were courteous, well informed, and
anxious to serve. This is one area of government that has its act together.
How
thoughtful are these guys?
The slogan of The
Peachtree Citizen Review is "News About Your Community, Plus Thoughtful
Opinions." How "thoughtful" is the essay by Mark Shields
in your Dec. 1 publication where he calls Al Gore "the back-up,
the proxy for the Devil?"
We
need to use spiritual eyes
In the book of John,
Jesus says that His is a "spiritual kingdom." He admonishes
the people in John 4:48, saying, "unless you people see signs and
wonders, you simply will not believe!"
